Financial Education Week Brings Knowledge to Mexicans Abroad

To sensitize the population about the importance of developing sufficient financial capacities, to manage and make the best use of resources as well as to guide Mexicans living abroad, the National Financial Education Week (SNEF) was a great success in 2021. 

In collaboration with the National Commission for the Protection and Defense of Users of Financial Services (CONDUSEF), the 14th National Week of Financial Education 2021 (SNEF2021) was carried out with great success in virtual format, under the slogan “Careful Wallet, Content Heart” from October 8 to 15, where for the second time the Institute of Mexicans Abroad (IME) participated seeking to promote and join actions for the inclusion and financial education of the Mexican community living outside the country. 

The event had the participation of the Consular Network of Mexico in the US, Canada, Latin America, and Europe, local allied organizations and institutions of the financial sector of Mexico, both public and private, who contributed content on financial education and carried out activities (conferences, workshops, talks, among others) that were transmitted via digital platforms and social networks resulting in an enriching and interactive meeting.

This is the second edition in which the IME coordinates activities with allies of the Mexican financial sector and Representations of Mexico in the US and, the first in which Consulates and Embassies of Mexico in Europe, Latin America, and Canada are added, carrying out activities aimed at the Mexican diaspora.

In coordination with the National Commission of the Retirement Savings System (CONSAR), through its President, Iván Pliego Moreno, a virtual conference was held on “The Retirement Savings System and the AFORE account in Mexico from abroad”, in which detailed information was provided about the services that said institution offers for the benefit of the community abroad and their families in Mexico.

In Calexico, the representation shared various centralized activities by the IME on its social networks. On Tuesday, October 12, the online conference “Personal Finance on the Road to Recovery”, which was organized with a gender perspective, dealing with entrepreneurship and personal finance management.

In Yuma, this representation participated in the section for Mexicans Abroad with the transmission on Facebook Live of the talk “Understanding Credit.”  The information session discussed the importance of maintaining good credit in the US, the types of credit and how to use them, as well as the importance of safeguarding all documents and/or correspondence that contain personal data to prevent identity theft, and in turn, the credit history.
