Just a few hours after the border was open to tourists, a new business opened its doors in Downtown Calexico that offers a unique set of CBD products and other great gifts for the family.
A celebratory evening was held on Nov. 9 as Mio Collections opened its doors to the community. Maritza Hurtado, the owner, thanked those that attended the inauguration saying that they need to support one another, especially after the pandemic. The business is located at 404 E. Second Street in Calexico.
“The goal is to sell products made organically that help living better and inspire self-care,” Hurtado said. “The creative ideas we have put together as friends in the community is to help each other grow and share beautiful creations like oils, candles, and creams. We are looking for more special items to our collection that are organic, animal cruelty-free, and made for that “me” time that we all crave,” Hurtado stated.
Hurtado has been a long-time businesswoman known for her work in the tax preparation business for more than 30 years. She has prepared taxes for hundreds of people but she felt that a change was needed and had the desire to start a new business.
Enter Mio Collections, her third business venture, that got off to a strong success thanks to the support of her friend and the Greater Calexico Chamber of Commerce led by Katie Luna and Gil Acuna were in charge of the ribbon-cutting.
