Number of COVID-19 Cases Increase to Six in Imperial Valley

-Editorial

The number of cases of COVID-19 is on the rise with many more pending results.

The Imperial County Public Health Department announced Saturday that two additional residents tested positive for COVID-19.

The two individuals are a couple that were exposed to a confirmed COVID-19 case while traveling outside of the United States.  The individuals were not hospitalized and are home in isolation. This brings the total number of positive cases for COVID-19 in Imperial County to six.

Dr. Stephen Munday, County Health Officer stated, “public health staff is working around the clock with our healthcare providers to make sure those who meet the criteria for testing are able to access the test.  As we conduct more testing, we expect to find additional positive cases in our community.  I cannot stress enough the importance of following the governor’s orders to stay home and practice social distancing to prevent the spread of COVID-19 to others.”

The State of California declared a “Stay at Home” order effectively closing all retail, gyms, and restaurants until further notice. Government buildings have closed and large gatherings are not allowed.
