The El Centro Regional Medical Center and the Consulate of Mexico in Calexico signed a collaboration agreement that promised to expand services through Ventanilla de Salud.

ECRMC CEO Dr. Adolphe Edward, City of El Centro Mayor Efrain Silva, and Consul General Tarcisio Navarrete signed the agreement and will allow them to start working immediately.

“We are very excited because we continue the work that has been going on but also allows us but now can expand and bring new programs,” Edward said. “We want our clinical leadership and our partners at the University of California San Diego involved to help us create those programs that will help our community,”

Consul General Tarcisio Navarrete said that he sees great things coming from this partnership.

“While we are dealing with COVID-19 there are still great things happening. There many Ventanillas across the United States but I know that with this partnership we will stand out,” Navarrete said.

The government of Mexico, in an effort to address these disparities and improve the quality of life of citizens living abroad, has partnered with governmental and non-governmental health-care organizations in the U.S. by developing and implementing an initiative known as Ventanillas de Salud.

The Ventanilla is located throughout the Mexican Consular network and aims to increase access to health care and health literacy, provide health screenings, and promote healthy lifestyle choices among low-income and immigrant Mexican populations in the U.S.

“This program will help the Spanish speaking community of the Imperial Valley understand the importance of health and utilize the available health resources they can use,” El Centro Mayor Efrain Silva said.
