- Playwright Bárbara Colio presents 10 years of work.
Mexicali, Baja California.- The Mexican playwright and writer Bárbara Colio, presented last Thursday, December 14, the book “From Families and Other Catastrophes” in the Conference Room of CEART Mexicali.
Mr. Manuel Felipe Bejarano Giacomán, General Director of the Institute of Culture of Baja California (ICBC), welcomed the playwright, dedicating a few words about her work and career.
“The mastery that Barbara has shown in everything that makes up the world of performing arts, promises us in this book an unequaled and undoubtedly introspective journey, where we can appreciate the dynamics that the most important and determining social circle of an individual can have. “ Said the director of ICBC.
Accompanied by the actress and writer Norma Bustamante, Barbara and the actor commented on the professional career of the guest, remembrances that led to years in which they shared the stage in theatrical performances.
Subsequent to this, Colio shared her experiences having migrated to Mexico City, leaving behind a secure job in the maquiladora sector of Mexicali to fully enter the world of arts from the dramaturgy.
The author reported that after receiving the María Teresa León International Prize for Dramatic Authors 2004 in Spain, for her work “Pequeñas Certezas” (Small Certainties), she catapulted herself internationally, premiering this work in Mexico (2007), England (2008), Peru (2009) , United States (2010) and Spain (2014).
The book “From Family and Other Catastrophes”, compiles the work of 10 years of writing, which is the testimony of family relationships and the peculiarity of its characters, in six chapters that are stitched together in a single work, commented the author.
At the end of the presentation, a large audience began the questions and answers section, which led the author to reflect on the professional career that she has created outside of her hometown, where she also received an invitation from Manuel Felipe Bejarano Giacomán , Director of ICBC, to return to Mexicali and make a staging of her works.
