To ensure a facility that provides protection and support for all women, girls, and adolescents in Baja California, Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda oversaw the groundbreaking of the Women’s Justice Center (CEJUM) in Mexicali, marking the third such center established during her administration.
The Executive Branch leader reiterated that combating violence and benefiting all women in Baja California is a priority for her administration, a commitment demonstrated from the first day she took office and which will continue until the end of her term.
“I assumed the governorship of Baja California with a gender alert and no Women’s Justice Center. Today, I can say we are launching the third one in just two and a half years,” she said.
This center will be located in the Calafia subdivision, with an investment exceeding 44 million pesos for its construction, of which 20 million come from the Federal Government and 23 million from the State Government.
The CEJUM will span 1,912 square meters, benefiting women, girls, and adolescents with personalized service areas for medical consultations, psychological care, interview rooms, empowerment rooms, public ministry, legal assistance, social work, and DIF services, among others.
“I want to tell the women of Baja California that you are not alone, and I say this as the Governor of the State, but not only as Governor, but also as the mother of an 11-year-old girl, and as the daughter of a great woman who has been my role model,” she emphasized.
Finally, Governor Marina del Pilar thanked the support provided by Erika Troncoso Saavedra, Coordinator of Linkage for the National Commission to Prevent and Eradicate Violence Against Women (Conavim).
In this context, a time capsule was placed as part of the project, which will be opened in 2050. It contains documents about the CEJUM project, various books, regional newspapers, and letters from children who acted as “Child Officials.”
The event was attended by the Director General of the Women’s Justice Center, Magdalena Bautista Ramírez; the Mayor of Mexicali, Norma Alicia Bustamante Martínez; and the 2024 Child Governor, Karla Nicole Cuevas Urquidez.
