Mexicali Is Ready for A Renovated Fiestas Del Sol Edition

Everything is ready for the “Fiestas Del Sol” to kick off full force this year as the municipality of Mexicali gets ready for its formal inauguration on Sept. 28 with new attractions that put the fears of the pandemic behind and at the same time it promises a season of fun for Mexicali families. 

But before the inauguration, Mexicali Mayor Norma Bustamante and the organizing committee of the fair toured the facilities and got a preview of what is to come. Local journalists got a preview of the work being done to welcome thousands of people from all over the region and Southern California. 

“We trying to put in our best effort and hopefully we have a record of attendance,” Mexicali Mayor Norma Bustamante said. “We are not trying to compete with anyone, we are doing the best we can and it will be the people that judge our performance.” 

In addition to the traditional attractions at “Fiestas del Sol”, the FEX team headed by Omar Landa is planning new areas so that visitors can interact through their social networks.

The organizing committee highlighted that the “Collective Pavilion” will be included for the first time, to support entrepreneurs with accessible stands so that they can promote their products. 

There will be extensive artistic shows for the enjoyment of families. There will be several live theater performances and musicals that will be performed at Fiestas Del Sol. 

For his part, Omar Landa announced the first confirmed artists to the Isla de las Estrellas, which are: Alicia Villarreal, Ana Bárbara, Roberto Tapia, and Eliseo Robles, Kabah, among other big stars. 

 “We are working with the local transportation companies so they can be available for the people that come from the Imperial Valley or Southern California so they have can the confidence to come here and use affordable transportation to Fiestas Del Sol and return home safely,” Landa said.  

Asked about the safety of coming to Mexicali after the recent violent events, Landa said that they have a lot of police security to make sure people are safe and don’t have to worry. 

It was mentioned that in this edition one of the purposes is to help social causes, therefore, the invited artists will develop events before their presentation to benefit institutions.
