Marina del Pilar Highlights Historical Record of More than One Million Cruise Passengers in Ensenada

The governor of Baja California, Marina del Pilar Avila Olmeda, highlighted the historical record of cruise passengers in Ensenada, counting in 2023, one million 12,910 people in 322 arrivals, which represents an increase of 36.1 percent compared to 2022 when 744 thousand people were received by this means of transportation.

It was on December 27, with the arrival of the Carnival Radiance to the port of Ensenada, when the port surpassed one million cruise passengers for the first time.

The state president pointed out that this is a result of public policies applied in conjunction with the business sector, since the cruise industry in the region has experienced significant growth during the year 2023, and the objective is to position Ensenada as a world-class tourist destination.

The head of the Executive Branch of the State expressed that the growth of the cruise industry in Ensenada means important economic benefits for the region since it generates jobs, and economic benefits and promotes tourism development.

“Baja California celebrates a historic moment with the arrival of the millionth cruise passenger to Ensenada. This achievement is the result of the efforts of the Ensenada Cruise Committee, as well as the municipal authorities, the Administration of the National Port System, and Hutchison Ports, and commits us to continue working so that Ensenada consolidates itself as a leading cruise destination in our country,” said Miguel Aguiñiga Rodríguez, Secretary of Tourism of Baja California.

The state official stressed that Carnival Corporation, a conglomerate that includes cruise lines such as Carnival Cruise Line, Princess Cruises, and Holland America Line, contributes significantly to the success of Ensenada, representing 63 percent of cruise arrivals.

For her part, Jan Swartz, Executive Vice President of Strategic Operations for Carnival Corporation, commented, “This achievement is a testament to the collective vision of Carnival Corporation, Carnival Cruise Line, and the Government of Baja California to provide extraordinary experiences to cruise passengers. who choose to discover the wonders of this region. We are proud to be part of this new record and will continue to collaborate closely to promote Ensenada as a world-renowned tourist destination.”

It should be noted that Ensenada has a privileged location on the Mexican Pacific coast, which makes it an attractive destination for shipping lines. The region offers a wide range of tourist attractions, such as its beaches, its mountains, its gastronomy, and its culture.
