MEXICALI, B.C.- As a result of favorable conditions and competitiveness built by the joint work of educational institutions, employers, workers and the State Administration led by Governor Francisco Vega de Lamadrid, through the Secretary of Economic Development (SEDECO); the secondary sector, specifically the subsector of manufacturing, achieved a remarkable 7.3% growth, according to the data of the Quarterly Indicator of State Economic Activity (ITAEE), for the third quarter of 2018 that was released by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI).
The Secretary of Economic Development, Carlo Bonfante Olache, informed that in general terms the economy of Baja California registered a growth of 2.0% in annualized comparison. Sectors that grew the most are the secondary sectors that include the mining, generation, transmission and distribution of electricity, water and gas supply, manufacturing and construction.
This showed a growth of 4.8% compared to the previous quarter and 3.2% compared to the same quarter of the previous year. The annualized data positions the State in the 10th place at a national level.
On the other hand, the state official indicated that the tertiary sector, which includes trade, tourism and other services, increased 2.0% compared to the same quarter of the previous year.
He also specified that the State accumulates annual growth in 34 quarters; and in the 19 quarters of the current State Administration, an average growth of 3.8% has been registered, above the national of 2.6%; which positions the entity in first place of the northern border and 8th national.
