IVC’s Licensed Vocational Nurse Program Achieves Top Ranking in California

-Editorial

Imperial Valley College (IVC) has every reason to be proud as it basks in the glory of being named the number one community college in the United States by the prestigious Aspen Institute. Adding to this impressive accolade, IVC has received another significant honor: its Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) program has achieved the top rank in California, placing it at the pinnacle of excellence in nursing education.

PracticalNursing.org, a trusted source for promoting and evaluating LVN programs, conducted a comprehensive analysis of 121 LVN programs across California. Out of these, 50 programs earned a place in the rankings. Remarkably, only IVC and the Annenberg School of Nursing in Reseda managed to score a perfect 100 percent in the evaluation, solidifying their positions as the best of the best.

Dr. Daniel Ortiz, Jr., the Associate Dean of Nursing and Health Technologies at IVC, expressed his gratitude and pride in the exceptional achievement, stating, “This recognition highlights the efforts and academic preparation developed by our team to do what we do best.”

He went on to acknowledge the collective dedication and hard work that made this recognition possible: “Thank you to our support faculty who have prepared our students to be eligible candidates for our challenging program. Thank you to our counselors who have guided our students along the way. Thank you to our wrap-around services that presented opportunities to our students to focus on their academic success. Thank you to our nursing faculty who have maintained the highest level of preparation that is now resulting in higher student success and retention on top of 100% NCLEX pass rates.”

Dr. Ortiz concluded with a heartfelt appreciation for the students who are the driving force behind this remarkable achievement: “And finally, thank you to our students, who are the reason we have earned this recognition. Together, we are achieving amazing heights and meeting our community’s demands for skillfully prepared nurses.”

PracticalNursing.org determines program rankings based on the success rates of licensure examinations, particularly the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN).

This significant state-level recognition comes on the heels of IVC being designated as the co-recipient of the 2023 Aspen Award for Community College Excellence. This prestigious award, which came with a prize of $500,000, solidified IVC’s position as one of the top community colleges in the nation. The Aspen Award is granted based on several key criteria, including graduation and transfer rates, placement in well-paying jobs, student learning outcomes, and equitable results for low-income and minority students.

Imperial Valley College has once again demonstrated its commitment to excellence in education and is now celebrating its LVN program’s outstanding achievement in delivering highly skilled nurses to meet the growing demands of the community.
