ICLA’s Summer Social and Networking Event in El Centro Unites Local Lawyers in Pursuit of Justice and Camaraderie

-Editorial

In the realm of justice and advocacy, lawyers stand as unwavering champions for their clients, diligently safeguarding their rights and interests while adeptly navigating the complexities of legal strategies and adherence to laws. In their continuous pursuit of fostering a robust and well-connected legal community, the Imperial County Lawyer’s Association (ICLA) recently organized an intimate dinner and Summer Bash at El Centro’s La Resaca, exclusively for registered members.

The gathering witnessed lawyers from diverse domains, including the District Attorney’s Office, Public Defenders’ offcie, and private practice, coming together in a spirit of camaraderie among friends and colleagues. As the region’s premier bar association, the ICLA has continually made a tangible impact on the local community.

Having been established in 2019, the ICLA currently boasts an active membership of 65 dedicated legal professionals. Looking ahead, the association will soon hold elections in 2024 to elect its reputable board of directors.

This heartfelt occasion took place a day after the commemoration of Lawyer Day in Mexico, infusing a bi-national essence into the event. The celebration offered a moment to express gratitude and appreciation for the tireless efforts of local lawyers, who have become an integral part of the Imperial Valley community.

Beyond Borders Gazette contributor Terry Cardenas, an attorney and law professor in Mexico, shared insight into the annual tribute bestowed upon lawyers in Mexico on July 12. Originating from a request by Federico Bracamontes, Founder of the Mexican newspaper (Diario de Mexico), the celebration honors the historic inaugural law class conducted by Fray Bartolomé Frías and Albornoz on July 12, 1553, at the Royal and Pontifical University of Mexico. In 1960, President Adolfo Lopez Mateos officially designated July 12 as Mexico’s Day of the Lawyer, an occasion that was celebrated with zeal for the first time in the same year.

This momentous day serves to acknowledge the unwavering dedication of lawyers, who act as ardent advocates for human rights and guardians of justice. Simultaneously, it calls for introspection, prompting lawyers practicing law in both Mexico and the United States to examine their actions within a legal framework built on the pillars of fairness and justice.

As the Summer Social and Networking Event concluded, the ICLA members left with a renewed sense of purpose, recognizing the impact of their collective efforts in fostering justice and building a stronger, more equitable society.
