Baja California promotes romance tourism with vineyards, coastline, and specialized services

Tourism officials in Baja California highlighted the state’s growing presence in Mexico’s romance tourism market, citing a combination of vineyards, coastal settings, culinary offerings, and specialized event services that support weddings and other milestone celebrations.

Miguel Ángel Badiola Montaño, the state’s secretary of tourism, said promoting romance tourism is part of a broader strategy to diversify the regional economy and strengthen competitiveness within the national tourism sector. He said the state has focused on developing specialized products and professional service networks to meet demand for destination weddings, engagements, and anniversary travel.

According to state officials, Baja California has received the Mexican Tourism Product Innovation Award in the “Romance Tourism” category for two consecutive years from the Secretaría de Turismo del Gobierno de México, the federal authority responsible for tourism policy and promotion.

In 2024, the “Destination Weddings” program developed by Bodegas de Santo Tomás received the distinction for integrating the region’s winemaking tradition with customized ceremony experiences. Tourism authorities said the winery, founded in 1888, offers event spaces set amid vineyard landscapes and services for private celebrations.

In 2025, Dovinto Vinícola Destino was recognized in the same category for a sustainable wedding concept that incorporates environmentally focused practices, including the reuse of vineyard plant materials for decorative elements and event design.

State officials said Baja California’s tourism infrastructure includes coastal venues, vineyard estates and event facilities supported by planners, caterers, and hospitality providers specializing in romantic celebrations. They added that the state’s geographic diversity — spanning shoreline environments and wine-producing valleys — allows for a range of event formats and visitor experiences.

Tourism authorities said continued recognition at the national level and ongoing development of specialized offerings have strengthened the state’s position in Mexico’s domestic market for destination celebrations. Officials also said the strategy aims to expand visitation by couples seeking tailored experiences that combine natural settings, gastronomy, and wine tourism within a single destination.
