ANTI-AGING: THE YAMANAKA FACTORS

By: Dr. Elton Gómez, Specialist in Regenerative Medicine.

The correctable markers or parameters of anti-aging using current technology are subjects of research and study. While there is no universal consensus on specific markers, some immunological and biological markers related to aging have been identified. Here are some of them:

Immunological Markers: Functional parameters and oxidative stress in immune cells are being studied as potential markers of biological age and longevity. However, it is essential to note that these markers are not universally accepted.

Biological Markers: Biological markers of aging are being investigated to better understand this process. Among them are the epigenetic clocks, which measure cellular and tissue aging and could be useful in preventing age-related diseases. The Yamanaka Factors are valuable tools in this field.

The Yamanaka Factors, also known as OSKM (Oct4, Sox2, Klf4, and c-Myc), are a set of proteins that play a crucial role in cellular reprogramming and pluripotency. These factors were discovered by Japanese scientist Shinya Yamanaka in 2006, and his research has been fundamental in the field of regenerative medicine and aging research.

To date, the Yamanaka Factors have been used in scientific studies to reprogram adult cells into induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), which share characteristics with embryonic stem cells. These iPSCs have the ability to differentiate into different cell types and have become an invaluable tool in researching and developing therapies for various diseases.

It is important to highlight that the Yamanaka Factors are mainly used in the field of scientific research and are not commercially available to the general public. They are used in laboratory settings and require specialized knowledge and precise conditions for their application.

Therefore, it is essential that any research or application related to the Yamanaka Factors be conducted following ethical protocols and established regulations. Additionally, obtaining approval and supervision from competent authorities is crucial before using these factors in any study or clinical application.
