Walmart México & Centroamérica announces the construction of its 21st Distribution Center in the country, located in Mexicali.

  • With an investment of close to $1,900 million pesos, the new Distribution Center will generate more than 700 direct jobs and 1,000 indirect ones.

Mexicali, Baja California. – Walmart México & Centroamérica celebrated their groundbreaking of what will be its 21st Distribution Center in the country, located in Mexicali, capital of the state of Baja California. With an investment of close to $ 1,900 million pesos, the new Distribution Center will open its doors in 2022, to strengthen the company’s logistics network in the states of Baja California and Sonora, as well as the supply of 48 stores in two of the formats the company has in this region: Bodega Aurrera and Walmart. This complex will generate more than 700 direct jobs and more than 1,000 indirect ones.

At the groundbreaking ceremony, Mr. Rubén Roa Dueñas, Undersecretary of Economy of the State of Baja California, mentioned to the attendees: “Baja California has become the economic phenomenon that represents a first national place in job creation, with more than 45,065 people hired. For this reason, I am excited that we are seeing the birth of this great company in the entity. Acts like this one, encourage and strengthen us so as not to lower our guard, so, on behalf of the State Government, I reiterate all the support to consolidate their plans and their hopes in Baja California”.

Walmart de México y Centroamérica maintains a firm commitment to Mexico that translates into the generation of direct and formal jobs, in investment in technology and infrastructure to boost the logistics network in the country. In 2020, the company has announced the investment of more than $6.436 million in the construction of five new Distribution Centers located in Baja California, Chihuahua, the State of Mexico, Tabasco, and Yucatán, to add 21 throughout the country, in order to supply its 2,599 stores nationwide.

Walmart de México y Centro America is a company dedicated to the commerce sector whose vision is to contribute to improving the quality of life of families in the region. It operates in six countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, México, and Nicaragua. In 2019, it reported an income of 646,846 million pesos. As of September 30, 2020, the region has more than 229,420 associates, 30 Distribution Centers, a presence in 679 cities with 3,452 units, and five business formats: warehouses, hypermarkets, supermarkets, and price clubs.
