Imperial County Supervisors Approve Strategic Plan to Usher An Era of Growth and Collaboration

-Editorial

On Tuesday, December 19th, at their regular scheduled meeting, the Imperial County Board of Supervisors took a significant step towards shaping a brighter future with the unanimous approval and adoption of the County of Imperial’s 2023 Strategic Plan. This marks a historic moment as only the second Strategic Plan in the organization’s history, setting a roadmap for inclusive and sustainable growth.

The year-long planning process, led by the County Executive Office in partnership with Reliance Public Relations, Inc., involved comprehensive community outreach and information gathering. Dozens of workshops were conducted across Imperial County with County leadership and staff, community leaders, community-based organizations, service clubs, and local advocates. In addition, a community-wide survey was made accessible to the public at large with nearly 1,000 responses. All played a pivotal role in shaping the plan.

The Strategic Plan introduces new Mission and Vision statements that reflect the County’s commitment to inclusivity, unity, and engagement.

New Mission Statement: Work collaboratively to sustain fiscal integrity, instill community pride, and support continuous improvements to provide high-quality, efficient services to residents, businesses, and visitors.

New Vision Statement: To foster a flourishing economy and facilitate opportunities for residents, workers, and recreational enthusiasts, while honoring the diversity of the population, the distinctive characteristics of the region, and the County’s agricultural legacy.

“We’ve designed this plan to be a living document, responsive to the evolving needs and opportunities of our County. With sectors like renewable energy and Lithium Valley at the forefront, we are poised for remarkable transformation,” stated County Executive Officer, Miguel Figueroa. “To ensure accountability, bi-annual updates to the Board will ensure we remain on track and adaptable.”

“The Strategic Plan is another important step in optimizing County resources for the benefit of our citizens,” added the Chairman of the Board of Supervisors, Ryan E. Kelley.

The plan’s goals encompass leadership, collaboration, quality of life improvements, regional mobility enhancement, superior customer service, fiscal sustainability, and economic development. It aims to connect communities, foster safe environments, boost economic prosperity in coordination with local efforts, and enhance the County’s influence at the state and federal levels.

The adoption of this Strategic Plan heralds a new chapter for the County of Imperial, one focused on growth, inclusivity, and a commitment to addressing the needs and aspirations of the communities within Imperial County.
