IID warns customers against fraudulent calls

In recent weeks, Imperial Irrigation District customers have reported an unprecedented wave of fraudulent phone calls coming from scammers who threaten to turn off the customer’s electric service unless immediate payment is made.

IID wants customers to know that these calls are not coming from the district and asks customers to be aware and take action.

If you get a suspicious phone call, IID requests that you simply hang up and contact the district directly.

By contacting IID, you can get accurate information about your account. If you have fallen behind, the district will work with you to explore payment options.

Because customers have been reporting calls made by scammers, IID investigators, working with law enforcement officials, have been able to get several fraudulent numbers shut down.

To further be safe, if you do get a suspicious phone call you should not call the number back (nor any number the caller may give you). Also, you should never provide personal or financial information over the phone to someone who calls you.

To report fraud, or to check your account status, IID’s customer call center can be reached toll-free at 1-800-303-7756.
