FIRST MIGRANT CARAVAN BABY IS BORN IN BAJA CALIFORNIA

MEXICALI, BC- Wednesday, November 28, 2018.- The State Government headed by governor Francisco Vega de Lamadrid, through the Ministry of Health, informs that today, November 28, the first birth of the migrant caravan took place in the Maternal and Children’s Hospital of Mexicali.

The head of the unit, Guillermo Trejo Dozal, said that it is a 20-year-old woman of Honduran nationality, who had 39 weeks of gestation and who, after presenting labor pains, was transferred to the hospital for her care, the condition of the mother and baby is stable.

He mentioned that to date, there is a record of 3 thousand 854 medical attention provided to Central American migrants, who are in shelters in the cities of Tijuana and Mexicali.

He commented that out of these consultations, 2 thousand 423 correspond to Tijuana and thousand 431 to Mexicali, which are granted through the mobile units of the State Program for Coverage Extension, and who have been very aware of the health conditions of migrants.

There is a registry of 40 pregnant women in Tijuana and 2 in Mexicali; likewise, 2 thousand 322 attentions were granted for acute respiratory infections.

In addition, dental consultations, vaccinations, self-care sessions, envelopes of Oral Life Serums, folic acid bottles, condoms, among other health actions have been delivered.

It is important to specify that there is a report of five people positive for chickenpox, so vaccination actions have been intensified within the population that is located in the shelters installed throughout the entity.

Trejo Dozal, stressed that the priority is to provide care to this population, especially to know what health condition are they are in, with the purpose of protecting and safeguarding the health of Baja Californians.
