Success is not an absolute measure but a relative one, veteran journalist Adela Micha told a packed audience as she closed the 13th edition of Foro Eleva Mexicali with a keynote address on journalism, perseverance, and the pursuit of purpose.
Micha, regarded as one of Mexico’s most influential media figures, reflected on her decades-long career and the challenges she has faced in an evolving industry. She reminded attendees that journalism is “uncomfortable by nature” because it forces society to confront issues that are often ignored.
“Success is relative,” Micha said. “Our profession demands humility, resilience, and the courage to confront failure. The culture of success can hurt us because it does not allow us to fail — and if we cannot fail, we cannot grow.”
The annual Foro Eleva event brought together entrepreneurs, business leaders, and innovators from across the region. Organizers said this year’s gathering drew record attendance, highlighting Mexicali’s growing role as a hub for dialogue on culture and innovation.
Micha began her career with Noticieros Televisa under the mentorship of legendary broadcaster Jacobo Zabludovsky on 24 Horas. Over three decades, she built her reputation as an interviewer and reporter, producing investigations and specials in Mexico, the United States, and Asia.
When her time at Televisa ended, Micha faced a turning point. Rather than step away from journalism, she founded her own production company, launching La Saga, an independent digital program that has thrived for more than seven years.
“It was very hard to suddenly be without a job,” Micha said. “But you must trust your gut, your instinct. That’s what kept me going.”
Her work has earned her multiple awards, including the National Journalism Prize “Rosario Castellanos” for her investigative series Cuidado… Mujeres Trabajando and Somos o nos hacemos.
Micha credited her ability to adapt, especially by collaborating with younger colleagues who helped her transition to digital media. “You have to have the humility to recognize that you don’t know everything,” she said.
In her remarks, Micha emphasized discipline, patience, resilience, and hard work as the cornerstones of her career. Inspiration and opportunity matter, she said, but “they have to find you working.”
She also questioned society’s narrow definition of achievement. “What matters is the process — the effort, the persistence, the work behind it,” Micha told the audience.
Her keynote, titled Una mujer chingando (“A Woman Working Relentlessly”), earned extended applause, closing a week of panels and discussions that highlighted leadership, innovation, and cultural exchange.
Foro Eleva Mexicali, organized for 15 years by COPARMEX Mexicali, has become the city’s leading business platform, aimed at driving economic development and expanding opportunities for entrepreneurs.
