Women That Live Foundation Marks 14 Years of Support for Breast Cancer Patients

-Editorial

The Women That Live Foundation (Mujeres Que Viven), founded on August 15, 2011, marked its 14th anniversary this week, continuing its mission to support women who are battling or have survived breast cancer. The organization was established by María de Jesús Villalobos de Murillo, whose legacy of compassion and commitment remains central to its work. Today, under the leadership of her daughter, Ana Lucía Murillo Villalobos, the foundation carries forward its mission with the same dedication.

Over the past 14 years, the foundation has assisted thousands of women by providing prostheses, bras, wigs, compression sleeves, mastectomies, mammograms, medical treatments, reconstructions, supplies, and medications. It has also organized awareness talks aimed at promoting early detection.

“Our commitment is that no woman loses hope,” said Murillo Villalobos, president of Mujeres que Viven, emphasizing the importance of awareness and timely breast cancer screenings.

The foundation also organizes annual events such as the off-road race Racing for Boobs, the Encendido Rosa ceremony, Paso Rosa, the Human Ribbon Walk, the Serie Rosa, and the traditional Christmas Breakfast at UNEME.

Guided by values of empathy, respect, strength, and solidarity, Mujeres que Viven continues its mission to reduce breast cancer mortality in Mexicali by supporting patients and their families physically, emotionally, and financially.

Through these initiatives, the foundation not only provides essential oncological supplies such as external prostheses, specialized bras, lymphedema sleeves, wigs, and caps, but also ensures access to free breast reconstruction surgeries in partnership with the Baja California Health Secretariat and local medical specialists. With signature events like the Racing for Boobs off-road race—the only all-female competition of its kind in Mexico—along with annual “pink” baseball and basketball games hosted by Águilas de Mexicali and Soles de Mexicali, Mujeres que Viven continues to strengthen community awareness and support for breast cancer patients and survivors.
