Women That Live foundation and Baja California Health Secretariat Launch ‘Ruta Rosa’ to Expand Free Mammograms in Vulnerable Communities

-Editorial

The Fundación Mujeres que Viven (Women That Live Foundation) played a key role in the official launch of Ruta Rosa, a health initiative led by the Baja California Secretariat of Health, which aims to provide free mammograms to women in the state’s most vulnerable communities.

The foundation’s president, Ana Lucía Murillo Villalobos, joined Health Secretary Dr. José Adrián Medina Amarillas and other local leaders at the ceremony. During her remarks, Murillo emphasized that October Rosa is a time for women to reflect on the importance of early detection — a message that Mujeres que Viven has long championed.

“At Mujeres que Viven, we strive every day to continue the example set by my mother, Mrs. Murillo, the founder of the Foundation. She was a woman who thought, spoke, and above all, acted with her heart,” said Ana Lucía Murillo, president of the Mujeres que Viven Foundation.

The foundation applauded the Ruta Rosa campaign, which aims to reduce late-stage breast cancer diagnoses by expanding access to screening. The program will deploy three mobile mammography units to serve 22 high-risk areas across Baja California. With a capacity of up to 200 exams per day, officials project more than 22,000 mammograms will be performed this year.

Dignitaries attending the event included Mexicali DIF President Karla Edith González Navarro, INDE Director Laura Marmolejo Toscano, COTUCO Director María de Ángeles Murillo Flores, Patricia Pacho Ruiz, director of Mujeres que Viven, and representatives from IMMUJER Mexicali, CETYS Universidad Preparatoria, and local media. Special guests also included Deputy Consul Ricardo Francisco Hernández Lecanda and his wife, along with members of the Risaterapia Mexicali Group.

Throughout Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Fundación Mujeres que Viven will continue its outreach with community events promoting self-examinations and timely medical screenings, reaffirming its commitment to women’s health across Baja California.
