-Editorial

The Government of Mexico, through its Ministry of Culture, has announced the eight semifinalists representing the eastern region of the United States in the third phase of the binational contest México Canta por la Paz y Contra las Adicciones. The eastern U.S. semifinal will take place on August 17, with the grand finale scheduled for October 5 at the historic Teatro de la Ciudad Esperanza Iris in Mexico City.

President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo said the contest aims to promote peace and combat addiction through music that avoids glorifying violence. She emphasized that updates on the competition, along with other programs supporting Mexicans living in the United States, will be shared during her weekly Friday press briefings.

“We will continue to inform every Friday about the support available to Mexican nationals in the U.S., through consulates and cultural initiatives like México Canta, which strengthen the ties between our people abroad and their families and heritage in Mexico,” Sheinbaum said during her daily morning press conference known as Las Mañaneras del Pueblo.

The selected semifinalists, currently working on their musical pieces at DLS Studios in Chicago under the direction of producer Francisco Javier Ramírez, include Alex Moreno, a singer-songwriter of contemporary Mexican music; Blue Malboro, a Hip Hop artist; José Carlos Díaz, a bolero performer; Donato Alfredo Mendoza Vargas, a mariachi composer; Miroslava, a pop-ballad singer; Stephanie, a corrido tumbado singer-songwriter; Mercedes Gala, a pop-ballad singer-songwriter; Two In Love, a ranchera duet; and Daya Dorado, a Tex-Mex country singer-songwriter.

Culture Secretary Claudia Curiel de Icaza announced that the regional semifinals and the grand finale will be broadcast every Sunday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on more than 18 public media outlets, beginning August 17. The broadcast schedule includes: August 17 – Eastern U.S. Semifinal; August 24 – Central U.S. Semifinal; August 31 – Western U.S. Semifinal; September 7 – Western Mexico Semifinal; September 14 – Central Mexico Semifinal; September 21 – Southern Mexico Semifinal; September 28 – Recap of Semifinal Highlights; and October 5 – Grand Finale in Mexico City. Finalists from both the U.S. and Mexico will travel to Mexico City to perform live at the Teatro de la Ciudad Esperanza Iris.
