CESPM Marks World Environment Day with Call for Water Conservation

In observance of World Environment Day on June 5, the State Public Services Commission of Mexicali (CESPM) reaffirmed its commitment to protecting natural resources. It encouraged residents to strengthen efforts to conserve water and properly dispose of waste.
World Environment Day, established by the United Nations, is observed annually to raise awareness about environmental challenges and promote actions aimed at protecting ecosystems and natural resources.
CESPM said it continues to carry out maintenance, cleaning and rehabilitation programs for water and wastewater infrastructure, as well as conservation initiatives designed to protect water quality and ensure the proper operation of drains, canals, sanitary sewer systems and stormwater infrastructure.
The agency highlighted ongoing activities, including drain and urban waterway cleanup projects, preventive maintenance of sewer networks, modernization of hydraulic infrastructure, and public awareness campaigns promoting efficient water use. Officials noted the importance of conservation efforts in Mexicali, a desert region where water resources must be carefully managed.
CESPM also urged residents to avoid disposing of trash, construction debris, grease, oil, and other waste materials in streets, storm drains, canals, and waterways. According to the agency, such practices can obstruct water systems, contribute to flooding and sanitary overflows, and negatively affect the environment.
The commission encouraged households to adopt water-saving practices, including repairing leaks, reusing water when possible, and using water efficiently in daily activities.
CESPM stated that environmental protection requires the participation of the entire community and that responsible water use can help support long-term sustainability and benefit future generations in Mexicali.
