The Assembly of Presidents of the Caribbean Professional Baseball Confederation (CBPC) reviewed progress on preparations for the 2027 Caribbean Series in Hermosillo, scheduled to take place Feb. 1-7, 2027.

Before the meeting began, Caribbean Professional Baseball Commissioner Juan Francisco Puello Herrera expressed, on behalf of the Confederation and the Caribbean baseball community, solidarity with the people of Venezuela, especially the families affected by the recent earthquake. He also offered prayers for the swift recovery of the impacted communities and reaffirmed the CBPC’s commitment to supporting them during this difficult time.

During the working sessions, the presidents of the member leagues reviewed the Confederation’s activities for the 2025-26 period, including the Commissioner’s annual report, the CBPC’s major institutional and commercial achievements, and the analysis and approval of the 2026-27 operating budget. They also approved the institutional project “Caribbean Series Nights,” an initiative designed to strengthen the Confederation’s communications and marketing strategy.

In addition to Commissioner Juan Francisco Puello Herrera, the Assembly included the presidents of the CBPC member leagues: Salvador Escobar (Mexico), Vitelio Mejía (Dominican Republic), Juan Antonio Flores (Puerto Rico), and Giuseppe Palmisano (Venezuela), along with CBPC Executive Secretary Antonio José Herrera and Yamil Benítez, president of the Caribbean Confederation of Professional Baseball Players (CONPEPROCA). Representatives from the Hermosillo 2027 Caribbean Series Organizing Committee, clubs affiliated with the member leagues, special guests, and the Confederation’s commercial partners also attended.

As part of the agenda, Pablo de la Peña, executive president of the Hermosillo 2027 Caribbean Series Organizing Committee, presented key details of the tournament, which will feature the champions from the professional leagues of Mexico, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, and Venezuela, along with a guest nation that will be announced in the coming days.

The proposed schedule includes two games per day, both to be played at Fernando Valenzuela Stadium, which was inaugurated for the 2013 Caribbean Series and is currently undergoing renovations and upgrades in preparation for hosting the Caribbean’s premier club championship once again. The preliminary round will run through Feb. 5, the semifinals will be played on Feb. 6, and the championship game will take place on Feb. 7. The third-place game is also scheduled for that day.

Before the Assembly, representatives of the CBPC, CONPEPROCA, and the Organizing Committee conducted an inspection tour of Fernando Valenzuela Stadium and the hotels that will accommodate participating delegations during the tournament.

On the commercial side, organizers announced that ticket sales will begin in July. Sales for domestic and international tour operators will open Aug. 10, followed by public ticket sales one week later.

From a competitive standpoint, the 2027 Caribbean Series in Hermosillo will make history as the first edition of the tournament to use a game-timing system that includes a pitch clock and an inning-break timer, a measure intended to speed up the pace of play.

During the session, the Assembly of Presidents also approved a proposal from the ARCO Mexican Pacific League naming Nayarit as the host of the third Caribbean Kids Series, scheduled for Aug. 10-16, featuring six national teams.
