For the second time, Baja California has earned international recognition as a top culinary destination, as local chefs received accolades from the 2025 MICHELIN Guide Mexico.
Zaida Luz López, Baja California’s Secretary of Tourism, along with Ignacio Alarcón Rodríguez, national president of CANIRAC, presented plaques to the award-winning chefs in a ceremony highlighting the region’s gastronomic excellence. Baja California received five red stars, four green stars, seven Bib Gourmand awards, and 21 recommended restaurants.
“These awards represent life stories—families investing in agriculture and fishing, chefs and teams dedicated every day, and a community that welcomes visitors with warmth,” López said. She added that the MICHELIN Guide positions the region on the global culinary map, boosting tourism, supporting local producers, and creating opportunities across the sector.
The event included Daniela Mijares Martínez, CANIRAC vice president of liaison; Iván Nolasco, CANIRAC Baja California president; municipal officials; and tourism representatives.
Five restaurants received the prestigious Red Star, recognizing exceptional cuisine and culinary mastery. The winners include Olivea Farm to Table, led by Eduardo Zaragoza; Lunario by Sheyla Alvarado; Damiana by Esteban Lluis; Conchas de Piedra by Drew Deckman; and Animalón under Javier Plascencia and Oscar Torres. All five are located in the Valle de Guadalupe region.
Four restaurants received Green Stars for sustainability and quality, highlighting environmentally conscious practices alongside outstanding dining experiences. Green Star recipients include Olivea Farm to Table, Lunario, Deckman’s en el Mogor, and Conchas de Piedra.
The Bib Gourmand award, which honors establishments offering excellent food at good value, went to eight restaurants. These include Sabina, La Concheria, Casa Marcelo, and Humo y Sal in Ensenada; Merak, Villa Torél, and La Cocina de Doña Esthela in Valle de Guadalupe; and Carmelita Molino y Cocina in Tijuana.
Baja California also saw 21 restaurants recommended by the MICHELIN Guide, showcasing the region’s growing culinary reputation. Notable mentions include Taquería La Principal, Tacos Mi Ranchito El Fénix, Tacos Marco Antonio, Tacos El Franc, Restaurante Punta Morro, Restaurante Amores, Primitivo, Oryx, Ophelia, Olivea Farm to Table, Misión 19, Manzanilla, Malva, Madre, Lunario, Latitud 32, Kous Kous, Envero en el Valle, El Paisa, Deckman’s en el Mogor, Corazón D’Petra, and Bruma Wine Garden. These recommendations reflect Baja California’s diverse dining scene across Ensenada, Valle de Guadalupe, Tijuana, and Tecate.
