Baja California state security and prosecutorial authorities said that investigations stay underway following two attacks in Mexicali that left two members of the State Citizen Security Force (FESC) and one civilian woman dead, while another woman was injured.

Officials from the Baja California Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSCBC) and the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) provided an update during a joint news conference, outlining investigative efforts and security operations underway to identify and locate those responsible for the attacks that occurred on June 26 and 27.

SSCBC Secretary Gen. Laureano Carrillo Rodríguez said the two slain officers were assigned to the investigative division of the FESC. According to Carrillo, the unit has taken part in several law enforcement operations, some in Mexicali and many in the Valley, in recent months, targeting organized crime activities.

Carrillo said those operations had produced significant enforcement results and that authorities had documented threats directed at members of the force. He said investigators are examining that information as part of the ongoing inquiry into the attacks.

Authorities did not provide additional details about potential suspects or motives, citing the active nature of the investigations.

The attacks have drawn attention across Baja California, where state officials have emphasized their commitment to finding those responsible and pursuing criminal charges.

State Attorney General María Elena Andrade Ramírez said investigators initiated protocols at once after the incidents were reported. She said authorities have conducted field investigations, collected and analyzed evidence, interviewed witnesses, executed search warrants, and carried out other prosecutorial and forensic procedures.

According to Andrade, investigators have developed several lines of inquiry based on evidence gathered during the first stages of the investigation. She said those investigative leads continue to be strengthened through the analysis of intelligence information, forensic examinations, and other evidence collected by authorities.

Authorities did not show specific findings or indicate whether any arrests have been made.

The SSCBC and FGE said they are working in coordination with federal authorities, including Mexico’s Defense Ministry, National Guard, and Navy. Officials said intelligence, investigative, and operational resources from the various agencies are being used to support efforts to find those responsible.

The agencies said coordination among state and federal authorities is still ongoing as investigators continue to gather evidence and conduct operations related to the case.

The Baja California government said Gov. Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda has directed security and law enforcement agencies to strengthen cooperation and continue efforts to bring those responsible before the courts. State officials said the governor has also expressed support for the families of the fallen officers and pledged continued institutional assistance.

No other information was released Sunday regarding the identities of potential suspects, arrests, or the timeline for future developments in the case.
