Avantti Medi Clear inaugurated its second E-Beam sterilization facility in Tijuana, completing a more than $12.5 million investment that state officials say strengthens Baja California’s position as a key hub for medical device manufacturing.
Representing Gov. Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, Economy and Innovation Secretary Kurt Honold Morales said the new plant reinforces the region’s medical device cluster and supports the creation of high-value jobs in advanced manufacturing. He congratulated Avantti Medi Clear for expanding its operations with a second plant dedicated to electron-beam sterilization, a technology the company has promoted as a clean, efficient alternative for processing medical devices.
The ceremony was led by Avantti Medi Clear Director General, Fernando Luna, and board president, Eduardo Luna Arenas. They were joined by representatives from the state’s medical and industrial sectors, including Miguel Ángel Félix, treasurer of the Baja California Medical Device Cluster; Adriana Eguía Alanís, president of Tijuana Economic and Technological Development Committee (DEITAC); René Paredes Ballesca, national director of Index’s Education Committee; and Fernanda Mena, director of promotion at Tijuana’s economic development office (SEDETI). Speakers emphasized the company’s consistent growth and its efforts to offer sterilization solutions that meet international safety, sustainability, and efficiency standards.
The new facility spans 6,200 square meters, including 4,500 square meters of storage space. It is equipped with a 10 MeV, 30 kW linear accelerator capable of expansion to 50 kW based on demand. According to the company, the irradiation bunker — built with high-density concrete walls up to 3.5 meters thick — complies with safety requirements approved by the National Commission for Nuclear Safety and Safeguards.
More than 20 suppliers contributed to the plant’s construction, most of them based in the region. Canadian firm MEVEX provided the main accelerator system. Company officials said the project generated more than 50 direct and indirect jobs and will strengthen local supply chains under just-in-time production models aligned with USMCA competitiveness goals.
The company also plans to use the added capacity to serve industries beyond the medical sector. The versatility of E-Beam technology allows applications such as sterilization, pasteurization, and polymer modification, opening opportunities in aerospace, electrical manufacturing, and the food industry.
In a statement, Avantti Medi Clear’s leadership said the second facility represents a significant step in expanding domestic technological capabilities. “This new plant reflects our commitment to innovation and the country’s technological development,” the company said. “We are proud to contribute to the advancement of industry, public health, and the regional economy.”
