The U.S. Coast Guard intercepted 14 migrants approximately 10 miles southwest of Point Loma, San Diego, in what officials described as a routine maritime security operation.

At around midnight, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations detected a panga-style vessel traveling through U.S. waters and requested assistance from the Coast Guard cutter Forrest Rednour (WPC 1129). Coast Guard personnel aboard the Rednour boarded the vessel and identified 14 individuals, who claimed nationalities including El Salvador, Nicaragua, Colombia, Guatemala, and Mexico.

The migrants were transferred to U.S. Border Patrol personnel at Imperial Beach in Ballast Point for processing. Authorities said all were in stable condition, and no injuries were reported during the operation. The Coast Guard emphasized that such interdictions are part of ongoing efforts to ensure safety at sea, prevent unauthorized entry, and maintain border security along the Southern California coastline.

Officials noted that the operation involved coordination between multiple agencies, including U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and highlighted the importance of monitoring maritime traffic to prevent potential risks to migrants and commercial shipping. The Coast Guard continues to maintain a heightened presence in the Southwest District to respond to similar incidents and enforce federal maritime and immigration laws.

Authorities reminded the public that the Coast Guard provides these services as part of a broader mission to safeguard lives at sea, prevent smuggling, and support lawful entry into the United States. Further updates on the status of the intercepted migrants are expected once federal processing is complete.
