María Teresa Babún Villarreal was elected president of the National Chamber of the Transformation Industry (CANACINTRA) Mexicali during the organization’s 81st Annual General Assembly held Thursday at the chamber’s offices. The assembly brought together members of the local industrial sector to mark the conclusion of Francisco Fuentes Aréstegui’s three-year term as president.
During his final address, Fuentes Aréstegui presented the chamber’s 2025 annual report, highlighting initiatives aimed at maintaining and enhancing the productivity and competitiveness of local industries. He pointed to the opening of new energy generation plants, which he said reflected years of industrial advocacy, and the creation of the Energy Intelligence Center (CIE) in partnership with the Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC), which now serves as an advisory body on energy matters for member companies.
Fuentes Aréstegui also discussed ongoing projects, including a feasibility study for a proposed International Convention Center in Mexicali, and efforts to revise city fire regulations, which were intended to make the city more attractive to investors.
Babún Villarreal, who takes office for the 2026–2027 term, said her administration will focus on strengthening the competitiveness of member companies, expanding services, and creating more opportunities for business development. She also highlighted plans to integrate micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MiPymes) into local supply chains, as well as initiatives to support women entrepreneurs and young industrialists.
“I take on the leadership of Mexicali’s industrial sector with great responsibility,” Babún Villarreal said. “My goal is to generate more and better benefits for our members and contribute to building a more competitive Mexicali.”
The chamber’s new board of directors for 2026–2027 includes Abel Graciano Aguayo as secretary; Brenda Carolina Félix Esquivel as treasurer; and vice presidents Miguel Ángel Bravo Jardón, Manuel Humberto Luna Rodríguez, Andrés Daniel Ruelas Martínez, Velia Zavala Martínez, Luis Martínez Moreno, Alejandro Vázquez Valadez, Martín Cueva Cano, Ricardo Wancho Nevárez, Edwviges Pío Rodríguez, Blanca Julia Leyva Varela, Verónica Bermúdez Ramos, Rubén Corral Bay, José Manuel Sánchez Palacios, and Pedro Rosas Nava.
The assembly was attended by chamber members and local industrial leaders, reflecting a continued focus on fostering collaboration and strategic initiatives to support industrial growth in Mexicali.
