The Rotary Club of Calexico will host its annual Grito de Independencia celebration on Saturday, Sept. 13, at Crummett Park. The event will feature an evening of live entertainment, cultural performances, and community festivities.
The event, which begins at 6 p.m., will include performances by The International Tribute Beatles, singer Marisol Tavares, Tengo Talento, Mucho Talento finalist Choco Garduño, and Miguel Guerrero y Los Guerreros del Valle. Attendees are encouraged to dress in 1960s fashion or traditional Mexican attire.
Alongside the music, the celebration will offer food, dance performances, mariachi, and family-friendly activities. Organizers say the evening is not only a chance to celebrate Mexican Independence but also an opportunity to support local students.
All proceeds from the fundraiser will go toward scholarships for students in the Calexico Unified School District. The Rotary Club of Calexico has awarded scholarships to generations of local students pursuing higher education and continues that tradition through community events like this one.
“Grito de Independencia is a chance to bring our community together in celebration, while also investing in the future of Calexico’s youth,” Rotary Club of Calexico President Mario Conde said.
The Rotary Club of Calexico recently awarded nine $500 scholarships to graduates of the Class of 2025, continuing its tradition of supporting local students in their pursuit of higher education. The year before, the club granted 13 scholarships, underscoring its commitment to investing in Calexico’s youth. By delivering on its promises year after year, the Rotary Club demonstrates the impact of community involvement, showing that the support of residents and event attendees directly translates into meaningful opportunities for local students.
Guests are encouraged to bring chairs, family, and friends to enjoy the festivities.
