San Diego FC has loaned goalkeeper Jacob Jackson to USL Championship club Monterey Bay FC through the end of the 2026 season, the club announced Monday. The move, effective May 26, 2026, includes a recall option for San Diego FC during the loan period.
Jackson, 26, recently rejoined San Diego FC on a free-agent deal signed May 7, 2026. He was named to the matchday roster but did not appear in games against Seattle Sounders FC on May 9 and Austin FC on May 13.
A San Diego native, Jackson has been part of multiple roster moves involving San Diego FC since being selected in Stage 1 of the 2024 MLS Re-Entry Draft. He later had his contract option exercised for the 2025 season and was considered part of the club’s inaugural roster planning cycle. After a brief stint away from the club, Jackson returned in 2026 before being loaned out again.
Jackson’s professional career has included stops across Major League Soccer. In July 2025, he was traded to FC Dallas in exchange for a 2026 MLS SuperDraft pick. He made an immediate impact with Dallas during one of his limited appearances, entering a match after a first-half red card to the starting goalkeeper and delivering a 12-save performance in a 1-1 draw against St. Louis City SC on Sept. 6, 2025. The performance earned him MLS Player of the Matchday honors for Week 32.
During his time with FC Dallas, Jackson made four appearances, including three starts, and recorded one shutout before departing at the end of the 2025 season.
Before joining San Diego FC, Jackson spent time with the New England Revolution after being selected 24th overall in the 2022 MLS SuperDraft. He signed with the club shortly after being drafted and was initially loaned to its MLS NEXT Pro affiliate, New England Revolution II, where he earned recognition as May 2022 Goalkeeper of the Month.
Jackson made his Major League Soccer debut in October 2023, recording seven saves in a 3-2 loss to Nashville SC. One week later, he made his home debut and recorded his first MLS win in a 2-1 victory over the Philadelphia Union in front of more than 41,000 fans at Gillette Stadium.
He was waived by New England in April 2024 and claimed off waivers by the San Jose Earthquakes later that month. Jackson spent the 2024 season with San Jose before re-entering the MLS Re-Entry Draft, where San Diego FC selected him ahead of its inaugural campaign.
Jackson played collegiate soccer at Loyola Marymount University from 2019 to 2021, making 42 appearances. He was named West Coast Conference Goalkeeper of the Year in both 2020 and 2021 and earned All-WCC First Team honors in consecutive seasons.
Across his professional career, Jackson has been noted for his shot-stopping ability and performances in high-pressure situations, including his record-setting 12-save MLS appearance with FC Dallas, which tied a franchise benchmark for saves in a single match.
San Diego FC said the loan to Monterey Bay FC is intended to provide Jackson with consistent playing time while maintaining roster flexibility.
