Provino Announces 35th Edition of the Grape Harvest Festivals in Baja California

-Editorial

The Provino Committee in Baja California announced the 35th edition of the Grape Harvest Festivals, a month-long celebration aimed at promoting the state’s wine culture and enotourism industry. Details were presented during a press conference held in Ensenada, highlighting over 45 events scheduled from July 30 to August 24.

Organizers say the 2025 edition carries added significance as it marks both the 35th anniversary of the wine harvest festivities and the 25th anniversary of Provino, the state’s leading promoter of wine culture.

This year’s theme, “Terruño, Identidad y Vocación” (“Terroir, Identity and Vocation”), reflects on the cultural heritage and generational dedication that have shaped Baja California’s wine identity. The state currently produces 70% of Mexico’s wine. Organizers expect this year’s festival to generate approximately 800 million pesos in regional economic activity, attracting visitors from across Mexico and abroad.

Two flagship events will anchor the festival. The Muestra del Vino (Wine Showcase) will be held on Friday, August 1 at the Riviera Cultural Center in Ensenada. This event will feature tastings from more than 80 wineries offering over 160 wine labels, along with cuisine from over 50 restaurants from Ensenada, Valle de Guadalupe, and Tijuana. Five stages will host live music performances across a range of genres. Admission is limited to adults and priced at MXN 1,450.

The Dr. Ramón García Ocejo Paella Contest is set for Sunday, August 17 at Viña de Liceaga in Valle de Guadalupe. Known for its strong local tradition, this family-oriented event will include wine tastings from 80 wineries and paella samples from 90 competing teams. The contest will also feature live music on two stages in a countryside setting under century-old oak trees. Children under 12 may enter free of charge; general admission is MXN 1,450.

Enological tours will take place every Saturday in August, each offering visits to three different Provino-affiliated wineries. Each tour includes round-trip transportation, guided winery visits, wine tastings, and a snack, with a cost of MXN 1,350 per person. The scheduled routes are: August 2 – Vinícola Xolo, Château Camou, and Vinos Plata; August 9 features two options: Route 1 to Casa Emiliana, Adobe Guadalupe, and Solar Fortún, and Route 2 to Viña de Liceaga, Bruma, and Encino de Piedra (Tecate); August 16 – Rondo del Valle, Finca La Carrodilla, and Viñedo Las Nubes; and August 23 – Lomita, Monte Xanic, and Bodegas F. Rubio.

The 2025 Fiestas de la Vendimia are expected to further solidify Baja California’s reputation as Mexico’s wine capital, offering a platform for promotion, celebration, and cultural connection through wine.
