The inspiring “Live Your Dreams Awards Brunch,” hosted by Soroptimist El Centro, brought together women from across the Imperial Valley this past Sunday for a heartfelt celebration of perseverance, empowerment, and opportunity. Held at the beautifully renovated Old Eucalyptus Schoolhouse in El Centro, the event began at noon with a warm reception and icebreaker activities that set the tone for connection, reflection, and inspiration.

The gathering honored women who are actively overcoming adversity while pursuing education, stability, and a better future for themselves and their families. At the center of the program was guest speaker Tania Guerrero, a local businesswoman, real estate professional, and recent author of her first book, “Destinada a la Grandeza” (Destined for Greatness). Her presence added a powerful voice to the event’s mission of uplifting women who are navigating life’s most difficult challenges.

Guerrero shared a deeply personal and motivational message with attendees, reflecting on her journey from working as an engineer to building a career in real estate, all while surviving domestic violence and rebuilding her life. Her testimony resonated strongly with the audience as she emphasized that adversity does not define a person’s future. Instead, she encouraged women to recognize their inner strength and embrace the belief that they are, as her book declares, “destined for greatness.”

The atmosphere throughout the brunch was one of solidarity and encouragement. Women from different backgrounds, professions, and stages of life gathered not only to celebrate achievements but also to share stories of resilience. Many attendees described the event as a reminder that community support can be transformative, especially for those facing financial hardship, caregiving responsibilities, or personal trauma.

Soroptimist El Centro President Ivone Sotomayor highlighted the purpose behind the organization’s ongoing efforts. “Celebrating women in their paths and promoting economic empowerment through these programs allows us to provide inspiration and education so women can continue advancing in their careers and support their families,” she said.

The Live Your Dream Awards program, the cornerstone of the event, is an international initiative by Soroptimist International that provides cash grants to women who are the primary financial support for their families. These awards help recipients further their education or vocational training, easing financial burdens that often stand in the way of personal and professional growth. Each year, thousands of women across the globe benefit from this program, gaining not only financial assistance but also recognition of their determination and resilience.

Beyond the awards, the brunch served as a reminder of the power of collective uplift. By attending, sponsoring, or donating, community members directly contribute to breaking cycles of hardship and creating pathways of opportunity for women striving to improve their lives.

Soroptimist El Centro is part of a global volunteer organization dedicated to improving the lives of women and girls through education, economic empowerment, and advocacy. With a strong presence in the Imperial Valley, the organization continues to lead initiatives that support women facing barriers such as poverty, domestic violence, and limited access to education. Through programs like Live Your Dream Awards, Soroptimist El Centro reinforces its mission of transforming lives by investing in women who are determined to succeed despite challenges.

The event closed with a renewed sense of hope, leaving attendees inspired to continue building stronger futures—one dream at a time.
