CBP Announces Designated Motorcycle Entrance at San Ysidro Port of Entry

U.S. Customs and Border Protection will implement a designated entrance for motorcycles at the San Ysidro Port of Entry beginning Sept. 8 as part of an effort to improve traffic flow and processing operations.

Starting at 4 a.m. Tuesday, motorcycle operators entering the United States through the San Ysidro crossing will be required to use the designated entrance near Lane 15, according to CBP.

The motorcycle entrance will operate from 4 to 10 a.m. Monday through Friday.

CBP said the change is intended to improve traffic flow and operational efficiency while supporting the processing of travelers entering the United States from Mexico.

Travelers are advised to follow posted signs and instructions from CBP officers when approaching and entering the port. Motorcycle operators are also being asked to follow the new traffic guidance and use caution while entering the designated area.

The San Ysidro Port of Entry connects San Diego and Tijuana and serves travelers crossing the U.S.-Mexico border by vehicle and on foot.

Travelers can obtain additional information about port operations and entry requirements through U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Historically, the San Ysidro Port of Entry, one of the busiest land border crossings in the world, lacked a dedicated, permanent traffic lane specifically designated for motorcycles. As a result, hundreds of daily two-wheeled commuters were forced to navigate through dense general traffic or Ready Lanes, often relying on lane-splitting between queuing passenger vehicles to reach primary inspection booths.

This created significant safety risks for riders and added friction to an already congested border corridor during peak morning rush hours.
