Baja California Gov. Marina del Pilar Avila Olmeda announced that coordinated operations between state and federal security forces have resulted in major drug seizures, weapons confiscations and arrests across the state.
During a state security meeting, Avila Olmeda said Baja California has continued to report progress in efforts to combat crime through cooperation with Mexico’s Secretariat of National Defense, federal agencies and state security corporations.
According to the governor, Defense Secretary Ricardo Trevilla Trejo highlighted Baja California’s security strategy during a national morning press conference led by Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum. Trevilla also recognized the work of Baja California Citizen Security Secretary Laureano Carrillo Rodríguez, stating that the leadership of the state security agency has played a key role in implementing the state’s security strategy.
State officials reported the seizure of 34.4 tons of illicit substances and the confiscation of 1,553 firearms through operations coordinated by the state security task force. Authorities also reported the arrest of 5,529 people allegedly linked to criminal activity. Those detained were turned over to the appropriate authorities.
Officials said crime data from October 2024 through May 2026 showed a 42% reduction in homicides and a 39% decrease in high-impact crimes.
Government officials also cited a decline in public perception of insecurity in Baja California, which they said fell from 76.9% in December 2025 to 73.8% in March 2026, according to institutional indicators.
Avila Olmeda said the state government will continue to strengthen the technological and operational capabilities of state security agencies, in coordination with federal authorities, as part of ongoing efforts to improve public safety in Baja California.
