-Editorial

Art Basel Paris concluded its second edition at the Grand Palais on Oct. 26, drawing more than 73,000 attendees over VIP and public days and further cementing its ties with the city’s artistic legacy and cross-disciplinary spirit. The fair brought together 206 leading galleries from 41 countries and territories, including 65 operating spaces in France, attracting enthusiastic participation from collectors, museums, and visitors from around the world.

Exhibitors reported strong sales across all market segments, with standout works including pieces by Gerhard Richter, Amedeo Modigliani, Julie Mehretu, and Leiko Ikemura. Rediscoveries by Marie Bracquemond and Lee ShinJa drew attention alongside emerging voices such as Yu Nishimura and Özgür Kar, reflecting the depth and diversity of the gallery programs on display.

The fair’s three main sectors — Galeries, Emergence, and Premise — showcased a wide range of art spanning historical masters, contemporary figures, and emerging talents. Highlights included canonical and blue-chip works by Peter Paul Rubens, Meret Oppenheim, and Edgar Degas; rediscovered artists expanding the art historical canon, such as Hector Hyppolite, Ella Bergmann-Michel, and Dadamaino; contemporary voices including Latifa Echakhch, Otobong Nkanga, Ai Weiwei, and Xie Lei; and emerging artists Ash Love, Precious Okoyomon, and Monia Ben Hamouda.

Art Basel Paris 2025 also welcomed representatives from more than 240 museums and foundations worldwide, including the Centre Pompidou, Musée du Louvre, Tate, Serpentine Galleries, Stedelijk Museum, Istanbul Museum of Modern Art, M+ Hong Kong, He Art Museum, Tank Shanghai, Art Gallery of Ontario, SFMOMA, Aspen Art Museum, MCA Chicago, National Gallery of Art, Guggenheim Museum, Whitney Museum of American Art, The Museum of Modern Art, MoMA PS1, and Public Art Fund.

The fair’s Public Program returned with activations across nine Parisian venues, connecting the event to adjacent creative industries. Italian fashion brand Miu Miu served as Public Program Official Partner for the second consecutive year. The “Oh La La!” initiative, a creative re-hanging of gallery presentations during the show’s Friday and Saturday, returned under the artistic direction of fashion journalist Loic Prigent, adding an interactive and innovative element to the program.

Clément Delépine, director of Art Basel Paris, said, “This second year at the Grand Palais has truly felt like coming home. The show has found its rhythm here, and its connection with the city has never felt stronger. It’s been a privilege to help shape this journey alongside an extraordinary team and global community.” French President Emmanuel Macron, Culture Minister Rachida Dati, and First Lady Brigitte Macron visited the fair during the week, highlighting its national significance.

During the show week, Art Basel also announced the appointment of Karim Crippa as director of Art Basel Paris, effective Nov. 1, 2025. Crippa will oversee the fair’s future development, working closely with galleries, collectors, and both private and public partners, including the Ministry of Culture, the Grand Palais RMN, and the City of Paris, to consolidate the fair’s position as one of Europe’s most dynamic platforms for modern and contemporary art.

Art Basel Paris 2025 took place from October 24–26, with VIP Days on October 22–23 and the newly introduced Avant-Première initiative on October 21. Organizers have confirmed that the 2026 edition will take place from October 23–25.
