Álex Fernández, heir to the iconic Fernández dynasty and one of the most promising voices in regional Mexican music, has been nominated alongside Majo Aguilar in the category of “Best Mariachi Song” at the 22nd edition of Premios Juventud. The recognition comes thanks to their collaboration on “Cuéntame,” a fresh proposal that has managed to keep the essence of mariachi alive while connecting with new generations.

The song, released earlier this year, has been warmly received by audiences, reaching more than ten million streams on digital platforms such as YouTube and Spotify. Its success confirms that the combination of young talent with deep family tradition can open new doors for a genre that is a fundamental part of Mexico’s musical identity.

“Receiving my first nomination at Premios Juventud is an indescribable thrill. I am deeply grateful to the fans and to everyone who has supported my music. ‘Cuéntame,’ alongside Majo, is very special because it represents our roots and our love for mariachi. This recognition motivates me to keep working, always with respect for tradition, but with the hope of exploring new paths in my career,” said Álex Fernández after hearing the news.

The announcement of his nomination could not have come at a better time. It coincides with the release week of his most recent single, “Loco por Volverte a Ver,” available since August 22 on all digital platforms. In addition, Álex is scheduled to debut this song live on September 3 in Mexico City, as part of his “Voz de mi Sangre Tour.”

Although faithful to the traditional sounds that have distinguished his family, Álex has expressed in several interviews his interest in experimenting with other musical genres. His goal is to enrich his artistic proposal, always staying true to the essence that links him to tradition, while at the same time bringing mariachi closer to broader and more diverse audiences.

The 2025 Premios Juventud ceremony will mark a historic milestone, as it will be held outside the United States for the first time. The gala will take place on September 25 at the Figali Convention Center in Panama City and will be broadcast live to millions of viewers across Latin America and the United States.

With this fourth nomination in his career, and his first specifically in the category of “Best Mariachi Song,” Álex Fernández reaffirms his role as one of the new voices seeking to bring continuity and freshness to Mexican music. His presence on the nominees list, alongside internationally renowned artists, highlights the importance of keeping mariachi at the center of cultural and artistic conversation.

The partnership between Álex Fernández and Majo Aguilar—two representatives of families that have marked the history of regional Mexican music—not only revives tradition but also projects it into the future. Their nomination is a reminder that mariachi, far from being a genre of the past, continues to evolve in the hands of new generations.
