His work will drive the development of specialized talent in Baja California, a key factor in Mexico’s technological growth amid the global expansion of the sector.

Mexicali, Baja California.- With the goal of strengthening the relationship between academia and the productive sector in Baja California, Dr. José Luis Jáuregui Tinajero, professor of the Master’s in Innovation and Operational Excellence at CETYS University, has been appointed coordinator of the Tijuana-Tecate Cluster. His mission will be to foster collaboration between universities and companies in the semiconductor, nanotechnology, and microelectronics sectors, promoting the training of highly skilled professionals for the industry.

Dr. Jáuregui has an outstanding background in the semiconductor industry and education. His appointment follows his participation in a specialized training program organized by the State Government, Banco Santander, EMTEC, and Arizona State University, where he strengthened his expertise in semiconductor design and manufacturing.

“My role is to connect new generations with companies seeking specialized talent. It is crucial to ensure that our graduates find job opportunities while also understanding industry needs to better guide academic training,” Dr. Jáuregui emphasized.

Semiconductors: A Key Sector for Mexico’s Technological Development

The semiconductor industry is strategic for the global economy, as these components are found in phones, computers, automobiles, airplanes, and virtually every electronic device. However, Mexico still faces the challenge of positioning itself as a key producer in this industry.

“The President of Mexico recently announced the Kutsari program, aimed at boosting semiconductor manufacturing in the country. Meanwhile, in the United States, the CHIPS Act is allocating $50 billion to strengthen this sector. This means that the demand for talent will grow exponentially in the coming years, and Baja California has a great opportunity to train the experts the market needs,” explained the coordinator.

Thanks to its proximity to the Arizona-California technology corridor, Baja California is emerging as a key hub for semiconductor development. Companies such as Qualcomm, Infineon, Skyworks, Intel, and Samsung already have a presence in the state, and partnerships with educational institutions are essential to meet the growing demand for specialized engineers.

CETYS University and Its Commitment to the Semiconductor Industry

In April 2025, CETYS University will launch a Semiconductor Specialization as part of its Master’s in Engineering and Innovation, aiming to strengthen the sector.

“We are working on a curriculum with key courses to understand the importance of semiconductors and their manufacturing. Additionally, we will soon launch conferences and masterclasses to share this knowledge with students and the business community,” noted Dr. Jáuregui.

Finally, the Tijuana-Tecate Cluster Coordinator emphasized the importance of engineers considering a specialization in this industry.

“Semiconductor production is not just a trend but the future of global technology. Now is the best time for students to explore this field and prepare for the opportunities ahead,” he concluded.
