Tijuana Mayor Ismael Burgueño Ruiz received a delegation of elected officials from California as part of the second Baja FAM Trip, an initiative aimed at strengthening ties between the two border regions and promoting binational collaboration.

The delegation included mayors, consuls, council members, and representatives from the business community. During the meeting, Burgueño welcomed the visitors and expressed appreciation for their presence, emphasizing the importance of continued cooperation between Baja California and California.

Burgueño said his administration is advancing a broad policy agenda focused on stability, balance, and human development, highlighting efforts to maintain a stable local government and promote economic and social growth. He also underscored Tijuana’s role as a key border city and reiterated its openness to international partnerships.

Tijuana Economic Development Secretary Pedro Montejo Peterson outlined several initiatives implemented by the city’s current administration, including the creation of a Business Advisory Council, the opening of a new Sentri lane to facilitate border crossings, and the development of a fast-crossing program. He also highlighted the “Tijuana: Ciudad Limpia” campaign and ongoing efforts to strengthen the city’s digital agency to streamline government services and administrative processes.

Carlos Jaramillo Silva, coordinator of the Business Advisory Council, said the event was organized to showcase Tijuana’s economic opportunities and cultural appeal, particularly to Latino leaders from the United States. He noted that promoting the city’s strengths, including its gastronomy, is a key component of fostering cross-border investment and tourism.

As part of the visit, attendees were served Caesar salad, a dish widely recognized as originating in Tijuana, during a networking session designed to encourage dialogue and cultural exchange.

Among those present were Mexico’s consul general in Los Angeles, Carlos González Gutiérrez; Tijuana Councilwoman Melissa Pacheco Silveyra; Gina Villalobos González, coordinator of the Investment Promotion Committee in Baja California’s Secretariat of Economy; and representatives of the local business sector.

The Baja FAM Trip is intended to build stronger relationships between leaders on both sides of the border and to highlight opportunities for economic cooperation, tourism development, and regional integration.
