San Diego Business Community Travels to Sacramento to Ensure Regional Interests Are Heard

-Editorial

Business and civic leaders from the San Diego region are traveling to Sacramento this week to meet with state lawmakers and discuss legislation that could impact the region. The San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Leadership Delegation is scheduled for Feb. 3-4.

Nearly 90 delegates are participating in the two-day trip, which includes meetings with more than a dozen policymakers. The delegation plans to address a range of issues, including housing, energy, healthcare, trade, tourism, affordability, and innovation.

The new legislative session began earlier this month, and the delegation aims to ensure the San Diego region’s interests are considered as lawmakers draft and debate legislation. Chamber leaders say these meetings provide an opportunity to present regional perspectives directly to decision-makers in the state capital.

Chris Cate, president and CEO of the San Diego Regional Chamber, said the delegation gives the local business community a platform to engage with policymakers on issues affecting economic growth and quality of life in the region.

“As Sacramento sets the course for California’s future this legislative session, San Diego’s business community is ensuring it will not be on the sidelines,” said Chris Cate, San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce President and CEO. “Our annual Sacramento delegation trip puts the voice of our region’s business community directly in front of the leaders making the most consequential decisions on jobs, housing, energy, and trade. When we show up in force and engage face-to-face, we make sure San Diego’s economic priorities are not just heard but acted on.”

Organizers note that the trip also serves as a networking opportunity for business and civic leaders to collaborate on priorities affecting both local communities and the broader bi-national region.

The delegation’s agenda highlights topics considered critical to San Diego’s long-term economic and social development, reflecting ongoing concerns about housing affordability, sustainable energy solutions, trade opportunities, and workforce innovation.
