Naval Air Facility El Centro has canceled its 2026 air show because of increased security measures and evolving force protection requirements, base officials announced.
In a statement released by the installation, officials said the decision followed careful consideration and was made to ensure the safety of service members, performers, support staff, and the public.
“This was not an easy decision,” the statement read. “We know how much our community has been looking forward to this event.”
The base said its team had been working alongside performers, community partners, and volunteers to plan what organizers described as a safe and memorable show. However, officials said heightened security considerations made it necessary to cancel the 2026 event.
Naval Air Facility El Centro did not provide specific details about the security measures or force protection requirements referenced in the announcement.
The annual air show is a longstanding tradition in Imperial Valley and typically draws thousands of spectators to the base. The event features military and civilian flight demonstrations and offers the public opportunities to engage with service members and learn about naval aviation. It also generates economic activity for local businesses, hotels, and restaurants.
Base officials emphasized that the cancellation does not signal a permanent end to the event. The installation noted that it has faced similar circumstances in the past and has resumed the air show after previous interruptions.
NAF El Centro said planning is already underway for a 2027 air show and expressed its intent to welcome the public back to the flight line in the future.
The statement also thanked Sailors, military families, and members of the Imperial Valley community for their continued support.
Officials said updates will be shared through the installation’s official website, the El Centro Air Show website, and its social media platforms as more information becomes available.
