Major League Baseball is expanding its international presence this weekend as the 2026 World Tour returns to Mexico’s capital for a two-game regular-season series between the Arizona Diamondbacks and San Diego Padres.

The games, scheduled for April 25–26 at Estadio Alfredo Harp Helú, mark the league’s third regular-season visit to Mexico City since 2023, when MLB launched its current World Tour format. Previous series in the capital featured the Padres against the San Francisco Giants in 2023 and the Houston Astros against the Colorado Rockies in 2024.

The Mexico City stop has become a focal point of MLB’s international strategy after other planned events, including a London series, were canceled or adjusted due to scheduling conflicts tied to global events. League officials have identified Mexico as a key growth market, citing strong fan interest and commercial potential.

This weekend’s matchup also highlights on-field considerations unique to the venue. Estadio Alfredo Harp Helú sits at approximately 7,300 feet above sea level, a factor that can favor hitters by reducing air resistance and pitch movement. In the 2023 series, the Padres and Giants combined for 27 runs and 11 home runs in one game.

The Diamondbacks will be playing their first regular-season games in Mexico, while the Padres are making their fourth trip to the country. MLB has staged regular-season games in Mexico since 1996, viewing the country as both a commercial opportunity and a pipeline for player development.

The series is part of MLB’s broader effort to globalize the sport, which includes international events and expanded media distribution. League content is now broadcast in more than 200 countries and multiple languages, reflecting a strategy aimed at growing baseball’s audience beyond North America.

In addition to international games, the World Baseball Classic has served as a key driver of global engagement. The 2026 tournament, held in March, featured players from across MLB and concluded with Venezuela winning the championship.

Saturday’s game is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET, with Sunday’s matchup set for 4 p.m. ET. Both games will be available through MLB Network and team-specific broadcast platforms.

Major League Baseball has played 15 regular-season games in Mexico, more than in any country outside the United States and Canada, beginning with the inaugural 1996 series between the San Diego Padres and New York Mets, highlighted by Mexican icon Fernando Valenzuela, and continuing through multiple matchups in Monterrey and Mexico City, including recent series featuring the Padres, Astros, Rockies, Cardinals, Reds, Angels and Giants.
