Art Basel announced the participating galleries and artists for the second edition of Art Basel Qatar, scheduled for Jan. 28-30, 2027, in Doha, alongside a new year-round initiative aimed at expanding art collecting and strengthening the regional art market.

The international art fair will feature 80 solo-artist presentations by 82 galleries representing 37 countries and territories. The event will take place at M7 and Doha Design District, with additional installations throughout Msheireb Downtown Doha. Preview days are scheduled for Jan. 26-27.

Presented in partnership with Qatar Sports Investments and QC+, with Visit Qatar serving as lead partner, the exhibition will emphasize artistic contributions from the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia, collectively known as the MENASA region.

According to organizers, approximately half of the participating artists come from the region, while more than one-third of participating galleries maintain exhibition spaces in MENASA countries.

The 2027 edition will operate under the curatorial theme “between / بين,” developed by Iraqi curator Wassan Al-Khudhairi in collaboration with Vincenzo de Bellis, Art Basel’s chief artistic officer and global director of fairs.

The theme examines cultural exchange, historical influences and relationships between regional artistic traditions and international contemporary art.

“The show explores the dynamic relationship between the MENASA region and the wider world,” Al-Khudhairi said in a statement.

The exhibition will maintain the solo-presentation format introduced during its inaugural edition, allowing galleries to focus on individual artists.

Featured artists include Mohammed Alfaraj, Monira Al Qadiri, Dana Awartani, Ibrahim El-Salahi, Hassan Hajjaj, Yazan Khalili, Waqas Khan, Seher Shah and Shahzia Sikander.

Participating regional galleries include Athr Gallery of Saudi Arabia, Green Art Gallery and The Third Line of Dubai, Gypsum Gallery of Egypt, and Chemould Prescott Road of Mumbai.

International participants include Gagosian, David Zwirner, Acquavella Galleries, Matthew Marks Gallery, Lisson Gallery, White Cube and Mendes Wood DM.

Their presentations will feature artists such as Andy Warhol, Maurizio Cattelan, Anish Kapoor, Oscar Murillo and Park Seo-Bo.

More than 30 galleries will participate in Art Basel Qatar for the first time in 2027.

Alongside the exhibition, Art Basel is introducing a year-round market development initiative designed to encourage collecting and support galleries beyond the annual fair.

The program includes Collectors Majlis, an invitation-only educational initiative launching in October 2026 for approximately 30 to 40 emerging and prospective collectors.

Participants will attend masterclasses, workshops, collection visits and discussions covering artwork purchases, collection development, gallery relationships and international art market practices.

The initiative will include educational sessions before the fair, activities during the January exhibition and a follow-up salon afterward.

Speakers will include Art Basel CEO Noah Horowitz, Al-Khudhairi, de Bellis and Qatar Museums Chairperson Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.

Additional collector gatherings are planned in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, India, Greece and other locations.

Horowitz said the initiative reflects Art Basel’s intention to establish a sustained presence in Qatar rather than concentrate activities exclusively around the annual exhibition.

The expansion coincides with several major cultural exhibitions across Doha, including Design Doha 2026, running from Nov. 5, 2026, through Jan. 31, 2027.

Rubaiya Qatar, a contemporary art exhibition featuring more than 120 artists from over 30 countries, will also run through April 30, 2027.

Additional programming includes exhibitions at the National Museum of Qatar and Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art.
