ICOE Launches SAT Test Center to Expand Access for Local Students

The Imperial County Office of Education has opened an official SAT Test Center in El Centro, expanding access to college entrance testing for students in Imperial County and the surrounding region.
The SAT is a nationally recognized college entrance exam used by many colleges and universities as part of the admissions process. Colleges may also use SAT scores for course placement, while some scholarship programs consider scores as part of their eligibility requirements. According to the Imperial County Office of Education, the new testing center is intended to improve access to the exam for local students by providing a testing location within Imperial County.
Before the new site opened, students in Imperial County traveled at least 140 miles round trip to reach the nearest SAT testing facility, according to ICOE. The agency said the new test center is expected to reduce travel time, transportation costs and other logistical challenges for students and families preparing for college admissions.
“Bringing an SAT Test Center back to Imperial County is an exciting step forward in expanding educational access for our youth,” Imperial County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Todd Finnell said in a statement. “We are very proud of Southwest High School graduate Alexis Huynh for advocating on behalf of local students, and grateful to the Imperial County Board of Education for making this happen.”
ICOE’s first official SAT administration is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 22. The testing center is located at the Imperial County Office of Education’s Administrative Conference Center in Building E, 4202 Sperber Road in El Centro. Registration is open for upcoming fall SAT testing dates, and students can select the ICOE testing location when registering through the College Board.
The Imperial County Office of Education provides educational services to local school districts and partner agencies throughout Imperial County. Its programs support students from early childhood education through adult education and include services related to curriculum, professional development, special education, career technical education, and other educational initiatives.
The agency said the addition of the SAT Test Center is part of its efforts to increase educational opportunities and improve access to college readiness resources for students across the county.
