Provino Baja California has announced the official program for the 36th annual Wine Harvest Festivals, the state’s premier wine festival, which will take place Aug. 5-30 with more than 35 events celebrating wine, gastronomy, culture and sustainable tourism.

The annual festival marks the beginning of the grape harvest, the most significant stage of the winemaking cycle, when grapes are harvested and wineries begin producing a new vintage. Since its inception 36 years ago, the event has grown into Mexico’s largest celebration of wine culture and one of Baja California’s most important tourism attractions.

The announcement was made during a news conference attended by Baja California Tourism Secretary Miguel Ángel Badiola, Proturismo Ensenada Deliberative Council President Andrés Martínez Bremer and members of Provino Baja California’s board of directors.

Provino President Francisco Rubio Cárdenas said the festival has played an important role in strengthening Baja California’s wine industry while promoting the region as Mexico’s leading wine destination.

“We are excited to celebrate another edition of the traditional Fiestas de la Vendimia,” Rubio Cárdenas said. “For 36 years, this celebration has helped strengthen wine culture in the region by showcasing the richness of our terroir and recognizing the work of everyone who makes this agricultural industry possible, from the vineyard to the glass.”

More than 80 wineries affiliated with Provino Baja California will participate in this year’s festival, offering wine tastings, pairing dinners, culinary experiences, educational workshops, guided winery tours and cultural events throughout the month.

Organizers project attendance of approximately 90,000 visitors and estimate the festival will generate an economic impact exceeding 600 million pesos. They said the event benefits hotels, restaurants, wineries, retailers and tourism service providers throughout Ensenada and the Guadalupe Valley while reinforcing Baja California’s position as Mexico’s premier wine tourism destination.

Among the festival’s signature events is the Muestra del Vino, scheduled for Aug. 7 at the Riviera Cultural Center in Ensenada. The event will feature more than 160 wines from 80 wineries, with tastings organized by grape variety rather than by winery to emphasize the characteristics of Baja California’s wine-growing regions. A producers’ area will allow visitors to meet winemakers and winery owners directly.

The event will also include culinary offerings from 55 regional restaurants, live entertainment across five stages featuring rock, jazz, Latin music and DJ performances, and a headline performance by Mi Banda El Mexicano de Germán Román. Admission is 1,450 pesos, and the event is open only to adults.

Provino also will host its Enological Visits on Aug. 8, 15, 22 and 29. The guided excursions will take groups of no more than 20 participants to three member wineries in the Guadalupe Valley, where visitors will meet producers and winemakers, tour production facilities and sample wines. The experience includes transportation, tastings and refreshments for 1,350 pesos per person.

Another marquee event is the Dr. Ramón García Ocejo Paella Competition, scheduled for Aug. 23 at Viña de Liceaga. Organizers said the annual event has become one of Baja California’s most popular family-oriented food and wine festivals.

The competition will feature 94 paella teams preparing their recipes for attendees while 80 wineries offer tastings and sales of more than 160 wine labels. The event also includes live entertainment on two stages. Admission is 1,450 pesos, while children younger than 12 will be admitted free.

This year’s festival theme, “Sustainable Viticulture and Enotourism,” highlights environmental stewardship and responsible tourism practices. Organizers said the initiative encourages efficient use of natural resources, conservation of the Guadalupe Valley and the development of tourism experiences that benefit both the environment and local communities.

As part of that effort, Provino has partnered with Reciclando Ensenada and CAMREC to expand glass recycling throughout the wine region and at festival events. Organizers said four community collection campaigns in the Guadalupe Valley have recovered approximately 15 metric tons of glass, with an additional 2.6 metric tons collected during recent Provino events, including the Festival de las Conchas y el Vino Nuevo and the Fiesta de los Viñedos en Flor. They expect to collect another 4.5 metric tons during this year’s Vendimia celebrations.

Baja California accounts for approximately 70% of Mexico’s wine production, making it the country’s leading wine-producing region. Organizers said the Fiestas de la Vendimia continue to showcase the state’s internationally recognized wine industry while celebrating the diversity of its wines, cuisine and cultural traditions.

The complete festival schedule and ticket information are available through Provino Baja California’s official website and social media platforms.
