Provino Baja California conducted two national wine industry promotion events this month in Guadalajara and Mexico City as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen the presence of Baja California wines in strategic markets across Mexico and expand commercial opportunities for the state’s wine sector.
Organizers said the events were designed to position Baja California and its wine valleys as the country’s leading wine-producing region while encouraging new business relationships between wineries and buyers from the hospitality and foodservice industries.
The events were organized as business networking events that brought together wineries from Baja California with distributors, wholesalers, restaurants, specialty wine stores, wine clubs, sommeliers, wine bars, and food and beverage executives. According to Provino, both events exceeded attendance expectations and focused on generating commercial connections and increasing national visibility for Mexican wine.
The first event took place on May 15 in Guadalajara and featured participation from 20 wineries, attracting approximately 200 wine industry professionals. A second event was held on May 19 in Mexico City with participation from 30 wineries and about 280 attendees from the hospitality, restaurant, and wine sectors.
Participating wineries presented a range of wine labels through guided tastings and direct meetings with potential buyers and strategic partners. Provino said the activities were intended to strengthen commercial relationships and contribute to the continued growth of Mexican wine consumption in the national market.
The organization also highlighted collaboration with the aquaculture industry through the participation of Ostiones Santomar and Distribuidora El Sargazo, which showcased seafood products from the Baja California Peninsula during both events. Provino said the partnership was intended to promote regional seafood products alongside Baja California wines and reinforce the connection between the state’s wine and culinary industries.
The events form part of a broader long-term strategy to expand Baja California’s wine industry presence in major cities throughout Mexico. Provino noted that this year marked the fourth edition of its Mexico City event and the second edition held in Guadalajara.
Provino described the networking platforms as tools that support not only the wine industry but also the broader tourism and hospitality sectors linked to wine production. The organization said the events contribute to positioning Baja California as a national reference point for wine tourism, gastronomy, and hospitality.
Baja California currently produces approximately 70% of Mexico’s wine, according to figures cited by Provino. The organization also pointed to the continued growth and reputation of Valle de Guadalupe as one of the country’s most recognized wine-producing regions.
Francisco Rubio Cárdenas, president of Provino Baja California, said the organization’s promotional efforts are aimed at supporting regional economic development while strengthening the national profile of Baja California wines and wine tourism.
“It is a joint effort by an agroindustry that has committed not only to quality but also to sustainability and the creation of experiences around wine through a strong network involving producers, field workers, chefs, restaurants, hotels, tourism operators, and service providers,” Rubio said in a statement released by the organization.
He added that promoting Baja California wines through national events also supports the state’s cultural identity and regional economic growth.
Provino said its promotional agenda will continue later this month with participation in the International Grape and Wine Congress in Aguascalientes from May 27 to May 30, followed by the Mar y Vino Festival in Cancún on May 30.
Founded 35 years ago, Provino Baja California is a civil association representing 80 affiliated wineries. The organization is known for promoting wine culture in the state through events such as the Fiestas de la Vendimia in Ensenada, specialized wine tourism experiences, educational initiatives, and wine club programs with distribution throughout Mexico.
