America’s Newspapers and the News/Media Alliance announced a joint national gathering that will bring together news media leaders from across the United States for a combined event Sept. 27–30, 2026, in Washington.

The four-day meeting will take place at the Washington Marriott Georgetown. It will merge two longstanding industry events: the News/Media Alliance’s annual Washington Fly-In and America’s Newspapers’ Senior Leadership Conference. Organizers said the collaboration is intended to expand participation and strengthen coordination among media organizations at a time of ongoing change in the industry.

The Alliance’s Fly-In has traditionally focused on advocacy efforts, with news executives traveling to Capitol Hill to meet with members of Congress and their staff. Discussions typically center on legislation affecting the news industry, including issues tied to sustainability, competition, and the protection of local journalism. The Fly-In also includes the Support Journalism Awards Dinner, which recognizes lawmakers for their work related to the industry.

America’s Newspapers’ Senior Leadership Conference, meanwhile, convenes publishers, executives, and other decision-makers to address challenges facing local newspapers. Sessions often focus on revenue strategies, digital transformation, audience growth, and public policy, while providing a forum for industry leaders to exchange ideas and best practices. The event will again incorporate the organization’s Family Owners Conference into the broader program.

Leaders of both organizations said holding the events together in Washington this year created an opportunity to integrate programming while maintaining the core elements of each gathering. Attendees will participate in both advocacy and leadership-focused sessions, with additional opportunities for joint discussions and networking.

Danielle Coffey, president and CEO of the News/Media Alliance, said the collaboration is designed to broaden the reach of the Fly-In and strengthen engagement with policymakers. Dean Ridings, president and CEO of America’s Newspapers, said the combined event reflects closer alignment among industry groups and is intended to reinforce the role of journalism.

The News/Media Alliance represents about 2,200 news, magazine, and digital media organizations in the United States and globally. Based in Washington, the group advocates on behalf of the industry in Congress, the executive branch, state governments, and the courts, and is the parent organization of the American Press Institute.

America’s Newspapers represents newspaper companies across the United States and focuses on advocacy, professional development, and strategic support for the industry. It works in coordination with the America’s Newspapers Foundation to provide programs for local and group-owned publications.

Additional details about the joint gathering, including registration information and a full agenda, are expected to be announced in the coming months.
