Imperial County announced that it is initiating a public comment period for the Draft Programmatic Environmental Impact Report (PEIR) and the revised Lithium Valley Specific Plan, which also includes proposed amendments to the county’s General Plan and Zoning Ordinance. The announcement is intended to provide transparency and ensure that community members have the opportunity to review and provide input on the documents before they are finalized.
The formal public review period will begin on Dec. 30, 2025, and continue through March 2, 2026, at 5 p.m. According to county officials, all comments received by the deadline will be included in the official record and considered in the preparation of the Final PEIR.
Written comments will be accepted only through designated channels. Residents may submit comments by mail to the Imperial County Planning & Development Services Department at 801 Main Street, El Centro, CA 92243, or by email to publiccomment@co.imperial.ca.us. All electronic submissions must include “LVSP 2025” in the subject line to ensure proper processing. County officials emphasized that comments submitted orally or through other methods will not be accepted or responded to as part of the environmental review.
The county said the public comment period is a key step in the review process for the Lithium Valley Specific Plan, which aims to guide sustainable development and land use related to lithium extraction and related industries in Imperial County. Residents, community organizations, and other stakeholders are encouraged to review the PEIR and plan documents carefully and submit any questions, concerns, or recommendations during the comment period.
Additional information, including formal notices, project documents, and instructions for submitting comments, will be made available when the Notice of Availability is published on Dec. 30, 2025. For questions about the public comment process, residents may contact the Planning & Development Services Department through their website at www.icpds.com or by calling 442-265-1736.
