The Imperial Irrigation District will hold two public workshops in October to allow customers and community members to review proposed investments in water and power services, infrastructure, and other district operations as part of IID’s upcoming two-year budget.

The workshops are scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 13, in El Centro and Tuesday, Oct. 20, in La Quinta. Both meetings will begin at 5 p.m.

IID said the workshops are intended to provide the public with information about how the district plans to allocate resources over the next two years and allow customers to ask questions about projects, programs, and other spending priorities included in the proposed biennial budget.

The district operates on a two-year budget cycle, which allows officials to develop longer-term spending plans for water and power services, infrastructure improvements, and other operations.

According to IID, the workshops will differ from a traditional presentation-only meeting by providing interactive displays highlighting proposed projects and investments across the district’s water, power, and support departments.

Customers will be able to visit the displays, speak directly with IID employees responsible for various programs and ask questions about how proposed expenditures relate to district services.

IID provides electric service to customers in Imperial County and portions of the Coachella Valley while also managing water deliveries and related infrastructure in the Imperial Valley.

District officials said the workshops are part of an effort to increase public access to the budget process and provide customers with additional information before the spending plan is finalized.

“Being transparent about how IID plans and invests for the future is important to the communities we serve,” IID Board Chairwoman Karin Eugenio said in a statement. “These workshops allow our customers to learn more about the projects and priorities that will help support reliable service over the next two years.”

The proposed budget is expected to address investments needed to maintain water and power operations, infrastructure, and other services administered by the district. The workshops will provide an opportunity for residents to learn how those proposed investments are connected to services provided to customers.

The first workshop will be held Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 5 p.m. at the William R. Condit Auditorium, 1285 Broadway Ave. in El Centro.

A second workshop will be held Tuesday, Oct. 20, at 5 p.m. at the IID La Quinta Boardroom, 81-600 Avenue 58 in La Quinta.

Both workshops are open to customers and community members interested in learning more about IID’s proposed budget, planned projects, and investment priorities for the next two years.
