October Pink Race to Raise Funds for Breast Cancer Support in Mexicali

Organizers of the annual Carrera Octubre Rosa announced details for this year’s breast cancer awareness run, which will raise funds for Fundación Mujeres que Viven and the services it provides to women undergoing breast cancer treatment.
The event, organized by gynecologic oncologist Dr. David Paredes Nevárez, is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 4, beginning at 7 a.m. at Avenida Álvaro Obregón and Calle E, in front of the Autonomous University of Baja California rector’s office.
Organizers presented details of the race during a news conference attended by Paredes; Ana Lucía Murillo Villalobos, president of Fundación Mujeres que Viven; breast cancer survivor Teresita Rivera Melo; plastic surgeon Dr. Abraham Juárez; radiologist Dr. Roberto Cabrera; and obstetrician-gynecologist Dr. Néstor Trujillo Romano.
Murillo thanked participants, sponsors, community members, and news organizations for supporting the event and the foundation’s work with breast cancer patients.
The race will offer three distances. A 1-kilometer event will be available for breast cancer survivors and children, while open men’s and women’s divisions will be offered for the 5-kilometer and 10-kilometer races.
Registration will cost 200 pesos for the 1-kilometer and 5-kilometer events and 250 pesos for the 10-kilometer race.
Participation will be limited to 2,500 people. Registered participants will receive a race number, an official event shirt, and a commemorative medal. Awards will be presented to top finishers, and organizers said raffles will be held following the race.
All proceeds from the event will benefit Fundación Mujeres que Viven, a Mexicali-based organization that assists women affected by breast cancer.
The foundation provides services and resources that include prostheses, wigs, specialized bras, breast reconstruction assistance, turbans, compression sleeves, psychological support, medical supplies, chemotherapy assistance, and mammograms.
Registration is scheduled to begin Saturday, Sept. 26, at Edificio Obregón, 846 Álvaro Obregón in Mexicali. Registration will open at 8 a.m. and continue while spaces remain available.
The annual event is held as part of activities surrounding Breast Cancer Awareness Month, observed in October to increase awareness of the disease and support people affected by breast cancer.
