The John H. Steppling Art Gallery at San Diego State University Imperial Valley will host an opening reception Sept. 3 for “Proof of Concept: Retrospecting the Ephemeral and Activist Art of Armando Rascón.”

The public reception is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. at SDSU Imperial Valley, 720 Heber Ave. in Calexico. The exhibition will feature selected works by Rascón, a Chicanx conceptual artist based in Washington, D.C.

Rascón works with electronic media, photography, curatorial methods, HTML web art, graphic design, language, sound, and political history. He is also known locally for serving as lead artist for “Border Metamorphosis: the Binational Mural Project,” a community-engaged public artwork involving more than 2,000 volunteers from 1998 to 2002.

The exhibition will be open to the public on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 to 11:30 a.m. through Oct. 1.

Parking is available in the lot off East Sherman Avenue, with additional public parking on surrounding streets.
